The Disney World Complex in Orlando

Walt Disney World is a very large resort complex located in Orlando, Florida. It occupies an area of 47 square miles. It is made up of theme parks, outdoor recreation facilities, a sports complex, water parks, 99 golf holes, entertainment facilities, shopping facilities, hotels, nightclubs and restaurants. The Disney World of Florida is the biggest of all the Disney resorts found in the USA and the only one referenced to as Disney World or Walt Disney World. The others are usually referred to as Disneyland.

Many people consider the Disney World to be the leading travel destination worldwide. The complex is divided into four different theme parks. The first one to be built was the Magic Kingdom. It offers shows, rides and various attractions which are categorized into seven fantasy areas. The second theme park to be built was the Epcot, which is divided into Future World and World Showcase areas. The former area entails current and futuristic attractions in many aspects of the economy, while the latter area bases its attractions on culture, entertainment, cuisine and shopping. The third theme park is known as the Disney-MGM Studios. It mainly provides facilities in movies and TV shows productions. Live shows are also staged here. Last but not least is the Animal Kingdom theme park, which is the largest and latest to be built. It covers 500 acres and has three areas. The first area is the Real area, which offers nature-like experience from the live animals that it features. The second one is the Mythical area that features imaginary creatures. The third and final area is the Extinct Area which sends visitors back in time to the age of dinosaurs.

 

Other than the theme parks, there are still other attractions in the Disney World. The complex has three water parks. The first one is called River Country. It is the oldest of the three water parks, and some people find it to be very relaxing. The second water park is known as the Typhoon Lagoon. It covers an area of 56 acres with a water pool of 2.5 acres in coverage and 2.75 million gallons of water in terms of volume. The third water park is called the Blizzard Beach, which is the largest and newest as well. Moreover, many people find it to be the most interesting amongst the three water parks.

 

Disney World also features many outdoor recreation activities. There are many golf courses which total 99 holes. The courses are grouped into categories. The first category consists of 5 challenging courses, each with 18 holes. The second category is a single course for beginners with 9 holes while the third category is also a single 36-hole course for family fun and miniatures. Tennis courts are also available in the complex. Other activities include water- skiing, fishing, parasailing, and the Richard Petty driving experience.

 

Other Disney World attractions include cruises, education facilities, adult training and many more. The Disney Institute and the Disney Cruise Line are found in the complex and offer education and cruising facilities respectively. Clearly, Disney World is another world of its own.
