Some Cultural Facets of Buenos Aires to Help You Relocate To Argentina

Buenos Aires is the city of tomorrow that gives you a very European experience with an Argentinean underbelly (and the joy of South American prices, of course!). It is a forward-looking, welcoming place, bustling with art, theatre, music, entertainment and other cultural marvels. Buenos Aires is made of new age neighborhoods and traditional districts, sky-high concrete and sprawling green, and a large population of Porteños; the friendly and interesting locals. While in Buenos Aires, here are some tips that will hopefully help you make the most of this fascinating city:

  • Accommodation – As one would expect from such an evolving city there is a huge variety of accommodation available; everything from 5-Star hotels to budget hostels. A popular option is the intriguing range of boutique apartments Buenos Aires that are available in some of the most stylish areas of this city and give the perfect opportunity to sample the cafes, bars and lively nightlife which make the city so special.
  • National Pride – Don’t be surprised if the people of Buenos Aires are oozing with national pride! They will ask you a lot of questions about your perception of their country, and you should show a lot of interest when they talk about it. Particularly football, of which you will hear much of the rivalry between Boca Juniors and River Plate!
  • Drinking mate – “Mate” is a kind of traditional local tea in Buenos Aires and a must if visiting one of the quaint cafes which adorn the streets of San Telmo.
  • Friendliness – It is normal for a Porteño to look you straight in the eye and smile even if you don’t know each other. Where we resort to looking at the floor in elevators or trains there is little such awkwardness in Buenos Aires and you will have many friendly chats.
  • Tango – It won’t take you long to sample the Tango, Argentina’s most famous dance. Attending a matinee Malongas you can get to see the experts at work as well as having the option to participate yourself. Find a TangoMap Guide and you will find many places to sample it firsthand.

Whether you are visiting for a holiday, business, backpacking or any other reason, Buenos Aires is a city that entertains and is well worth exploring. Certainly consider Buenos Aires apartment rentals as an alternative to the standard hotels as you will often find great value for money and a more unique experience.

Holiday In Lisbon – A Friendly Guide to Europe’s Most Affordable City

Lisbon, in Portugal, is widely recognized for its unique culture and sites that never fail to amaze. The nation’s capital city is a welcoming destination, particularly in the long summer months of May through October when the beautiful weather adds to the attraction. From the bleached limestone buildings to the vibrant nightlife, everything about this city is alive and refreshing. And in Lisbon, it can all be enjoyed at reasonable value. For the budget tourist it can be an ideal place to visit and with a little research and planning you can get all the charm and splendor of an authentic continental European city, without having to shell out too many Euros!

Things to See and Do in Lisbon while on a Budget

Estrela Basilica, a sprawling neoclassical monument from the 18th century, is one of Lisbon’s most attractive landmarks. This profusion of grandness, along with its gardens, can be enjoyed for free! Other freebies include Lisbon’s lush parks such as Parque de Sao Pedro de Alcantara and the Parque Principe Real, which are impregnated with pleasing flora. Lisbon’s Museums charge a nominal fee, but many like Museu Nacional de Arqueologia and Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga are free on Sundays until 2 pm, a useful piece of knowledge for those looking to save.

If all these sights on the mainland don’t satisfy you, you can take the ferry, at a reasonable price, across Tejo River to the other side of the city. There you will find the curious isolated industrial village of Gingal and you can relish some of the best views of the Lisbon skyline. Stay until after sunset to see Lisbon sparkle in the hue of orange-yellow night lights. The ferry ride and all other fees can usually be reduced for students, young children, seniors and large groups. So make sure you ask and bring proper ID (and all your friends!!).

Another must try at €1.05 is Lisbon’s Tram 28, locally known as eléctrico, that takes you through the winding streets of history in the Chiada, Baxa-Alphama and Graça localities.

Eat and Drink like a true Lisboeta!

First on our list of low-cost options is a Café or a Bica, which is Lisbon’s special strong coffee that can be found on every street corner. At about 60 cents per cup, you can have enough to charge you up for a long day exploring the city. A visit to Portugal is not complete without sampling the local wines of course! Pick one of the dainty, family-owned restaurants in the old localities such as Bairro Alto for inexpensive selections of wine. These restaurants will also please you with traditional Portuguese food choices, prepared in house and served in pleasant homely surroundings.

Low-Cost Accommodation in the City of Seven Hills

While Lisbon’s labyrinth of streets will have you exploring all day long, you do want a safe and comfortable place to return to at night. Never be too far from the action; no need to travel too far from the course and be in the right place for the family fun the following day!
